The Gravity Brake (GraB) is a system that uses gravity as braking force. The techniques implemented allow to use the weight of the train to apply the brake shoes on the rails.
GraB ADVANTAGE:
Thanks to the system, braking distances can be divided by 5.
GraB can stop a high-speed train driving at 300 km/h in 600m instead of 3,000m.
Adjustable braking power. The GraB can serve both as traditional brake and as emergency brake.
The system works even in case of power outage; the braking effort does not require any external input of energy.
Reduced maintenance costs. It is not necessary to dismantle the whole braking system to replace braking shoes.
